We were lucky enough to have our rehearsal dinner at our favorite local Chinese restaurant. It's family owned, super friendly, and incredibly delicious. Since we were having a full chinese buffet for our rehearsal dinner (and our 30something guest list), we though having these fun finger fortunes would be cool as favors.

I designed what I wanted the layout to look like, and the fortunes inside. Then Mel designed the look of them, with just a little bit of direction. I think they came out great, and we were able to connect the kind of feeling that the wedding day would have, during the rehearsal dinner.

The pictures aren't great (with the restaurant's dim lighting), but he also designed a menu that we displayed with the alcoholic drinks available. Since we weren't including any of that for the rehearsal, we wanted something displayed to allow guests to order it for themselves. Something small, but we were really happy we had a few little touches to the rehearsal dinner.

So I went MIA just before the wedding, so I apologize for that. But really, what did you expect? I was planning a wedding, working fulltime, and busy being completely awesome! There was no time for blogging.

But guess what kiddos, now there is.

I fully intend on kind of wrapping up with all the prewedding, and wedding details through a series of posts.

How's the married life? It's bamf. Is it always peaches and cream? Hell no. It's not always going to be easy, we know that. But we've also been together for over nine years. So we've been through a lot. But being married, definitely an upgrade.

So, my first hair trial was a bust. But here's a shot from the do-over. It's a different type of curl, that the stylist took the curling iron, and went back and forth to create the "wave" effect. I wanted so badly to have a head full of waves, NOT CURLS, unlike my first hair appointment. To complete the look, I'll add the birdcage veil with a flower fascinator, for the ceremony. Then I'll switch to a jeweled headband during the reception.

I'm super excited.

This has been THE best week ever. Hands down.

First, I had my dress fitting. Now let me tell you, when I first picked up my dress- it didn't fit. Not like, it was a little snug.
It wouldn't zipper, AT ALL. So needless to say, I've been freakin' a bit since then.
So when the alterations person steps in to help me zipper the dress, and it goes RIGHT up, I about threw up with relief. I was shocked. So shocked, that it took me about fifteen minutes of her telling me that it fit fine, and that there really wasn't anything that needed alterations.

Except- that it was a bit too big.

Say what?

My love got his tuxedo ordered! Woot! And he set up the account for the groomsmen. Double woot! On top of that, we ordered his wedding band tonight. Now, hopefully it fits, and is just as wonderful in person as it looks online.

I'll be honest, this has been an extremely accomplished weekend.

I went to a hair trial.

It didn't exactly turn out how I thought it would.

I came prepared with pictures, texture inspiration, and my wedding day hair accessories. Here I thought, okay this is going to rock! I'm going to go in, give exact pictures of what I want my hair to look like.... and I'm going to leave with some badass hair.

I'm an idiot.

Here's what actually happened.

I am hoping for some mad waves, like Jennifer Love Hewitt has in Ghost Whisperer. I'm wearing a birdcage veil, and have plans on eventually switching out to a pearl + rhinestone headband. So I wanted to have my hair down, with pretty waves. Less prom curls, more natural chic.

Well I went in, and realized that my [amazing] hair stylist is skilled in blow outs, straightening, and color. Wait, that's not exactly what I want for my wedding day do'. Dang. So shame on me, for expecting something of a professional, who has in the past said he wasn't as skilled in updos and in styles [like the exact one I wanted].

So after simmering down, I called up another salon and booked a consultation with someone else. Cross your fingers for me.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have a more promising update on all things hair.

To all my budget brides out there, do you ever feel anxious about sticking to the bottom line?

No? Stop lying.

Now that there are 44 days left before the wedding (ACK!), the wedding pocketbook gets opened pretty often. So I find myself constantly writing lists, making calendars, and trying to feel as organized as possible. We've tried to stay away from unneccessary expenses, and things we just don't need. But so many brides mention that things are going to "pop up," and extra money will just be spent.

So I continue making lists. Continue micromanaging our checkbook. I am determined to not overspend. I am determined to stay smart, and not fall in love with something adorable that I must have for the wedding [that I will probably never remember years later].

I was thinking of printing these up for some OOT bags for our guests. This is a perfect example of one of those, "If there's time, this would be way cool." So if it doesn't happen, it's totally fine.

But, I know I'd like to put something together for our out of town guests, to help make their stay a little more comfortable. From the weddings I've already attended, receiving a little something was a really nice treat.

Now don't get me wrong, it's not like they ever MADE the trip. Or actually helped the out of town stay a little easier. But, it made me feel included. Receiving something that was put together, made me feel like I was being thought of.

And that's what I want our guests to feel. Loved.

So some ideas of things to include: directions, timeline, phone numbers, thank you card, and some delicious treats.

The ceremony was held in a local park, with only really close friends and family. Then with an even smaller group, we had dinner at BBKings with blues music and yummy food.

We are not only having our wedding day ceremony and reception, but we are also having a day after Saturday Bash. This made it possible for us to include our close friends and family that we couldn't invite to the actual wedding day/ reception.

In my head, I see lots of mason jars with candles hanging from the trees. Sitting on tables. Lighting up the backyard as it gets dark outside.

And smores being made over a little bonfire.

I thought about having really big balloon details at our Saturday Bash (the day after reception). But now I'm thinking it would be a really cute photo prop detail for the bridesmaid photos.

I want to take some pictures with the bridesmaids before the ceremony, I just hadn't figured out where or what they would look like. I know that I want them youthful, and playful, and vibrant. I know at least that.

Now the fiance, wants his boys to take preceremony photos at the local comic book store. Pretty dang cool.

They came! The silk flowers from afloral.com came, and I love them! They shipped super duper quickly (I barely just ordered them), they were packaged really securely, and I'm so happy about what the flowers actually look like in person.

I was mostly worried about what the flowers I purchased, were going to look like when they got to me. I've seen those reality shows where they send off for a "great deal" on some "beautiful flowers." And what they get is a rip off for some butt ugly buds.

And you know, I really love them.

So me and the Fiance went to Old Time Pottery today, looking for some mason jars. Instead, we found some light pink ranunculus flowers!!! I've been looking times three, and haven't found a single stem. Online, in stores, wholesale websites... nothing. And then, on a whim we wandered into the flower section.

And there they were.

I am thrilled.

Now, technically I only found 7 stems worth of them (one stem is two full flowers and one bud), so I still want more. But, I have hope again.

And better yet, now I have some light pink flowers that I love.

**UPDATE: So I did it. I finally ordered silk flowers from afloral.com, that I've been looking at for way too long. I ordered a boatload of fuschia ranunculus, several light pink peonies, some light pink carnations, and some miniature pink ranunculus.

Now, I just have to wait.

So I went "fake dress shopping" with my maid of honor the other week. We went out looking for appropriate bm dresses, for each one of our weddings. Then, tried on a few... and took pictures to use as examples for our bridal party ladies.

If you remember, I am having them pick out their own black, dress. Which means they should all have completely different styles, since many of them are so different from one another.

I can't believe it! When I first told my fiance about wanting a version of a photobooth, this is exactly what I had in mind. Don't get me wrong, I didn't come up with the idea. I actually saw it done once before. And after 13 months, finally, I've found it again! Woot!

Can you imagine, having a photowall where your guests can pop their heads into picture frames for great photo ops! I can already see, having my mustaches used as props. Mark my words, I am attempting this. According to kiss the groom it was made by covering wood with wallpaper, and hanging frames over the cutouts in the wood.

So first things first, go to Home Depot and price out some wood. ;)

Are you getting an idea of what I have in store? Oh yeah, Vegas, baby. Vegas.

I figure the theme is going to be "Lucky in Love." Think Vegas. Little White Wedding Chapel. Elvis and Priscilla. Lots of red, black, and white.

We both don't want really cookie cutter boring wedding showers, where you sit around and play lots of games. Instead, we want something fun and youthful. And entertaining! So, I'm hoping this will do the trick.

As far as games, I know we will have at least that one where you can't say the word "wedding," or you lose the clothespin. But, instead of a clothespin, we will have little red dice accessories. Either a bracelet, or pin. I've already bought these red dice from ebay, to make them from.

I definitely want to do a quiz, printed onto an oversized playing card. (My adorably accommodating fiance is helping with this!) And the invitations will be really Vegas, Little White Wedding Chapel-y.

I wish I could just find an Elvis cake topper, without paying an arm and a leg! Even a little figurine would be fine!!

My bff of 37 years and counting* just got officially engaged. The thing is, is that she has been unofficially engaged for some time now.

Her wedding date, dress, location, guest list....already done. The only thing that wasn't done, was the proposal.

It makes you think, what do you consider as the moment you are engaged?

Is it when you get The ring? When he proposes? When he asks the fam for permission?

I think it's the moment you both decide, that this is It. When you both decide that there is no one else in the world to make you happy. That moment, that you know, you want to be engaged. Because you want to be married. To that one person, forever.

So when they decided that they wanted to marry, they naturally started making plans. But when a ring snafu happened, my bff felt like she was going to be married before she was engaged.

Turns out, he bought a mood ring from a tourist gift shop behind her back when we went out for my birthday. And that night he got down on one knee and proposed.

So congratulations, bff, on your engagement. Regardless of when you actually got engaged. ;)

I don't know if you've noticed, but my posts have been more and more frequently talking about overall style. My dress. Fiance's cufflinks. BPar-tay flowers. You get the drift.

I think at this stage of planning, I'm trying to nail the style of the wedding party. Now that I've got my dress (!) and veil out of the way, I can finally start looking for shoes and accessories.

As far as my bridesmaids, I've got only a couple things solidified.

Short, black cocktail dress. No cotton, or jersey knit, so that they are formal enough.

Solid black heels.

That's it.

And if you've read some of my previous posts, you may have seen some ideas for hair fascinators, headbands, barrettes. All sorts of good stuff. I just have to figure out exactly what I want. I know I want to incorporate color (shades of pink), and I want accessories that will tie each bridesmaid together. Because though they will all have black cocktail dresses, they will all be different styles.

So the search for style begins.

I may have found an alternative to my paper flower bouquets.

Because, I've been a little hesistant about the paper flowers in the bouquets. Not in the centerpieces at all. But most certainly in the bouquets. Why?

Well, I haven't put a bouquet together before. And, I've tried tissue paper flowers before... and let me tell you it wasn't pretty. So needless to say I was a little worried about what I was attempting.

This on the other hand may be an idea worth attempting. Yay.

Sidebar: I already have boatloads of felt, since I make felt monsters for etsy. Score!

I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas for the loverly ladies in my bridal party.

They will all be wearing short, black cocktail dresses. With black heels.

So I want to have fun with colors in some fun accessories. I've been thinking about hair details, like those above from Cultivar. Headbands, bobby pins, fascinators, oh my!

And this would be the best way to bring in the color pink fo' sho.

My Mom doesn't like to waste money (especially on shipping costs), if you didn't already know.

So when we saw this at Williams and Sonoma, she bought it. Instead of shipping it down for my bridal shower, she figured buying it now and just giving it to me made more sense. And here I thought, giving me a wedding was gift enough.

Today I met up with a knottie who had offered over 140 sparklers at no cost. They were leftovers from her wedding, and she didn't want them to go to waste.

What a nice sentiment, to help a fellow bride on a budget out.

It happened. I finally gave in and went dress shopping, though I've been engaged since July 3rd.

It was me, my Mom, Momma Dos, and Bff Numero Uno. We went to Alfred Angelo's first, because there was one dress in particular that I am in total love with.

Here's the one.

But it did NOT look good. Nopes.

So after trying on like four total dresses, I wanted to head over to David's Bridal. Now, even though I've avoided trying dresses on... I'm a firm believer in doing a bit of wedding research. These aren't $50 dresses. I wanted to know what details I liked, and didn't like before getting to a pushy ::coughcough:: err, I mean, very helpful associate. In fact, going dress shopping I had written down the particular styles I wanted to try on before leaving.

Alfred Angelo had only one style (shown above) I knew I was trying on, and the rest I just kept an open mind and let the associate pull things that would supposedly fit well on my body type. At David's Bridal, I had a longer list. And I tried maybe two or three dresses. At least two, didn't even make it out of the dressing room.

Then I got to try on the one dress that I've loved the minute I saw it online, and the style number on the top of my list. Literally, I had memorized the style number. I could tell you right now, but the fiance does occasionally glance at my blog. And this girl is taking no chances. ;)

Looks like I found my dress.

The only size availabe in the store was a good two sizes smaller than what I would need, and I still knew that it was The dress.

::squeal::

So folks, what have we learned here today?

1. Do your research. Know what you like, what you don't like. And don't be afraid to speak up! (I sent a few dresses back out of the fitting room without trying on, that were NOT me.)

2. Be flexible like Gumby. Allow the associates to recommend dresses that would flatter your shape. Things that you may not have considered. Keep an open mind. (There was one dress that everyone loved, and I only had it because the associate suggested it to me.)

3. Go with your gut. The dress I loved online, on the hanger, and on MY BODY, made me smile. It helped that everyone else said they loved it, but mattered more that I loved it.

And the fiance? After telling him I found The dress... his only question was,

"Is it made of all denim?"

Because as long as we wear all denim from head to toe at our wedding, we'll be good to go. Thanks Britney and Justin, for inspiring couples everywhere.

I finally did it.

I have finally asked my last close girlfriend to be a bridesmaid.

::insert me jumping up and down with glee::

I have been stalling for some time now, because I'm not great at asking people for things. Well perhaps I should clarify. I am not great at asking people for things, if there is a chance they may say no.

So the idea of asking someone to be a bridesmaid, travel out of state, buy a dress and shoes, come to a rehearsal dinner, and whatever else may be associated with bridesmaidial duties...is a stretch for me.

But, the idea of not asking the people I did was not really an option. I couldn't imagine not having the girls I have, with me the day I get married. To have fun, get pretty, say a few vows, and let our hair down for the night- they were exactly who I would want by my side.

So glad I did it.

I would love to use vintage suitcases as a design influence. I was mostly inspired by That Bride who effectively had woven them into her wedding details. And we're considering a move after the wedding which would make the suitcase theme fit super perfect.

I think that I would like to attempt this design for my bouquet. The only trick is figuring out how many stems I'm going to need. Because, in order to keep costs down I would be ordering the silk flowers from online. Which means, I can't see them in person to ensure I'm buying enough (or not buying too many).

This 'flowers business' is exhausting.

But, I'm fairly confident that this picture is exactly what I want from my bouquet. Perhaps I'll take a trip to JoAnns and create one from the ranuculous they have in stock. It can help me get a better idea of what I will need. There. That's it.

Mom's visit, one more thing on the list.
